Raspberry Vera was bred using very popular raspberry varieties Kaliningradskaya x Kuzmina Novosti x Barnaul. Description of the variety and characteristics are given by the originator: Siberian Research Institute of Horticulture named after M. A. Lisavenko. The variety is included in the State Register for the Volga-Vyatka, Central Black Earth and West Siberian regions and belongs to the category of early ripening.
Variety Vera has very worthy characteristics, which are due to the genetic characteristics of the parent plants. The bushes are medium-sized, semi-spreading. Shoots of medium size, prickly, densely leafy. The plant is characterized by medium shoot-forming ability, it is flexible and easily bends to the soil. The spikes are thin and soft, located on the entire surface of the shoots.
The berries are medium in size. Usually, the weight of marketable berries does not exceed 1.8-2.7 g. The form is obtuse. The surface of a ripe berry is purple. Drupe of medium size, homogeneous, adhered insufficiently firmly. The flesh of ripened berries is sour-sweet, pleasant, estimated by tasters at 3.5 points. For one season, with proper care from each plant, you can get about 1.6-2 kg of berries.
It is advisable to plant raspberries of the Vera variety in the first decade of autumn. For landing, you should select a flat, slightly elevated, without flooding, melt water area. The soil in the area under the raspberry should be fertile, light and breathable. Landing on slightly acidic soil is allowed. With strong acidification, liming with dolomite flour should be carried out in advance. Very useful is the introduction of planting conventional wood ash.
When planting, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the distance between rows and plants. The standard scheme assumes a row spacing of 1.2 or 1.5 m. The distance between plants in a row should be at least 0.6-0.7 m. Such indicators allow problem-free servicing of plants in raspberries. In case of insufficient soil fertility, local fertilizer should be applied to the planting pits or trenches.
Immediately after planting, plants need abundant watering, as well as mulching the topsoil with such organic components as sawdust, dry foliage, peat or dry humus. During autumn planting, it is necessary to prepare plants for winter when the first severe frosts occur.
Raspberry varieties "Vera" is quite capricious, it does not tolerate the lack of moisture in the soil, so it needs regular and plentiful watering. A very good result is recorded on a drip irrigation system with a high-quality mulching layer. After rains and watering it is very important to carry out surface loosening of the soil. The site must be cleaned of weeds.
Top dressing is carried out at least three times per season. If compost was used as an organic fertilizer for raspberries at the stage of preparing a land plot for planting, then it is enough to add phosphorus-organic fertilizers when feeding. Phosphorus and potassium in the soil on the site should be at least 250 mg / kg. Raspberries of this variety grow very well on light loamy soils with a sufficient humus content, therefore insufficient fertilizer has a negative impact on crop yields and plant health.
The plant is not resistant to disease. Before flowering, raspberries are sprayed with a preparation such as Inta-Vir, or with a Bordeaux mixture, karbofos, nitrofen (based on 200-300 g per 10 l of water). Additional processing of raspberry bushes may be required. Besides, it is necessary to spray in the fall, before preparing the plants for the winter period.
Autumn pruning of raspberries consists in removing all weak, damaged and diseased shoots. After pruning, plants are sheltered for the winter. In the spring, you should periodically open the shelter and ventilate the plants to protect raspberry shoots from aging.
Raspberries under the name "Faith" is not widespread and not too popular with summer residents, so there are few reviews about it. The pluses of the variety include resistance to damage by shoot gall midge and high productivity. Berries ripen very amicably and practically do not crumble from the bushes.
How to plant raspberries in the fall
However, the variety is far from perfect: the taste is rather mediocre, the plant does not have sufficient frost resistance and is prone to freezing in winter, which suggests high-quality shelter of bushes in late autumn. Raspberry Vera cannot boast of drought tolerance and needs frequent and plentiful watering. Cons also represented by the inability to transport the crop and a strong defeat purple spotting.
