Typhi grape, or “Typhi pink”, is known to many by its synonymous names such as “Typhi-Kyzyl”, “Typhi Suryh”, “Toipi-Kyzyl” and “Gissori”.

Grade characteristics

Typhi grapes are a table variety known to mankind since ancient times. Arabs brought the variety to the territory of Central Asia in the 7th-8th centuries AD. e. via the Arabian port of Taef. The data on the cultivation of the variety in the vineyards in Bukhara and Samarkand have been preserved, from where this grape spread. According to the combination of morphological and biological characters Typhi grapes can be attributed to the group of popular oriental hybrids and varieties.

Biological Description of the Variety

Grapes of the typhi pink variety form vigorous bushes. The standard harvest is late. From the stage of bud blooming to the full ripeness of the berries of this grape variety, from 160 to 175 days pass. Young shoots have a crown covered with a light cobwebly pubescence, and are also characterized by weak staining and the presence of a dark raspberry border. Annual and fully ripened shoots have a reddish-brown color.

The leaves of grapes of this form are quite large, have a weak layering, five-lobed and oblong-rounded shape. The lower surface of the sheet plate has a bristly pubescence or absolutely smooth. Flowers form bisexual. The grape brush is very large, with an average weight of 1.5 to 2.3 kg, with the presence of developed lateral blades. The standard form of the bunch is cylindrical or conical. The clusters are loose in structure and are located on a long stem, which is characterized by lignification at its base.

The berries of the Typhi grape are very large. The weight of ripened berries can vary from 7 to 9 g. They have an oblong or oval shape, and are also characterized by the presence of a kind of beveled top. The standard berry length is from 2.3 to 2.8 cm. Fully ripe berries have a fairly bright, reddish or dark pink color with a pronounced purple hue.

The berries have small but noticeable spots on the skin, as well as a moderate coating with a thin waxy coating. The peel on the berry itself is dense, thick and has a very characteristic bright red color on the inside. The pulp is optimally fleshy, moderately crispy, dense and juicy, has a pleasant and harmonious taste. The taste characteristics are quite high.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Typhi grapes have many advantages that make it very popular and in demand for a long time:

  • excellent view of clusters and their marketability;
  • excellent taste indices;
  • good transportability of harvested grape brushes;
  • long-term storage capacity of the crop;
  • the absence of the negative impact of drought and high soil salinity on yield and quality of berries.

However, this variety has a very low resistance to lower temperatures in the winter. In addition, the variety is prone to severe damage by mildew, flour dew and spider mites. The taste of berries can become very mediocre with a sharp change in the region of cultivation and insufficient amount of sunlight.

Landing rules

Typhi grape seedlings are characterized by high growth activity. Cuttings of this variety are also very well and root as quickly as possible. Planting of seedlings is carried out according to the standard scheme with preliminary soil preparation in the area under the vineyard and treatment of the root system of seedlings with stimulants. The growth force and height of the bushes suggest the use of fixation on the supports.

Typhi grapes have some features that affect the implementation of vineyard care activities:

  • a sun-loving plant has a need for regular watering, which involves the use of special irrigation systems in cultivation;
  • irrigation of grape bushes before and after flowering, as well as in periods of too dry periods;
  • the variety is very responsive to fertilizer application, of which it is preferable to use phosphorus and potassium fertilizing;

  • mulching the soil with organic matter has a double effect, which allows not only to feed the plants, but also to protect the root system from overdrying;
  • pruning can be carried out both in spring and in the autumn period, but it is mandatory at the plant dormancy stage;
  • it is recommended to carry out fan formation of bushes on 3 or 4 sleeves using medium pruning for 5-6 eyes.

Bushes quite often do not tolerate overload, so it is very important to conduct timely rationing. In addition, before the stage of mass flowering and after flowering, grape bushes should be sprayed with agents against diseases and major pests.

Typhi grapes belong to the category of varieties that have more positive than negative reviews. In fairness, it should be noted that many characterize the variety as sugary-sweet, with an unusual pink "tan", berries, slightly extended on a loose brush. Most do not like the sugary-sweet taste, as well as the large seeds in the berries.

However, most amateur gardeners would gladly agree to cultivate it, but, unfortunately, the variety survives and abundantly bears fruit exclusively in areas with a very hot, closer to Asian climate. For example, in the territory of Uzbekistan such grapes have long established themselves as drought-resistant and salt-tolerant, capable of bearing fruit on various types of soils. The frost resistance of this form is quite low, and it is suitable exclusively for warm regions. Cases of freezing of the variety were noted even in Crimean vineyards.

Typhi grapes are a high-quality table variety that is also suitable for drying. It can be stored for a long time, as well as transported over long distances. This is a very beautiful variety, and, importantly, it forms berries without cracking or peeling.

When cultivated in areas with suitable climatic conditions, an excellent crop is formed every year, delighting growers with large, beautiful brushes and a high presentation. This variety needs a lot of lighting and heat to fully ripen the crop and shoots, so even in the southern regions it is recommended to plant it near the main walls, which are facing the south-west or south side.
